• The Great Wall of China isn't one continuous structure. Every section ever built across different dynasties adds up to about 21,196 km, but it's actually impossible to see with the naked eye from space. Even Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei confirmed after his 2003 spaceflight that he couldn't spot it.
• In March 1974, farmers digging a well near Xi'an accidentally uncovered one of the biggest archaeological finds of the 20th century, an underground army of roughly 8,000 life size terracotta soldiers built to guard Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife.

Archaeological records show the 12 animal cycle was already well established by the Qin dynasty, more than 2,000 years ago.
• In 1405, nearly 90 years before Columbus crossed the Atlantic with 3 small ships and 90 men, Chinese admiral Zheng He set sail on the first of seven voyages with a fleet of more than 200 ships and around 27,000 men.
• China shares land borders with 14 different countries, tied with Russia for more neighbors than any other country on Earth, stretching across a combined border length of about 22,147 km.
