• France was once again the world's most visited country in 2025, welcoming 102 million international visitors and generating a record 77.5 billion euros in tourism revenue, well ahead of second place Spain.
• The Eiffel Tower was only ever meant to be temporary. Gustave Eiffel had a 20 year permit to keep it standing after the 1889 World's Fair, and it was saved from demolition because officials realized its height made it perfect as a radio antenna.

• France's TGV holds the world speed record for a conventional wheeled train, hitting 574.8 km/h in 2007 on a specially prepared stretch of track east of Paris, using a modified train with oversized wheels built just for the attempt.
• Only sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France, under strict rules dating to an 1891 treaty, can legally be called Champagne. More than 120 countries now recognize and enforce that protection.

• The Cannes Film Festival began in 1946 but didn't hand out its now iconic Palme d'Or trophy until 1955, when jeweler Lucienne Lazon's gold palm design, inspired by the city of Cannes's own coat of arms, was chosen for the award.
